How Dermal Fillers Enhance Your Jawline

Tired of your double chin or square jaw? In the age of Instagram, you’re hardly the only one. In a 2017 survey, 55% of facial plastic surgeons noted having seen patients expressing a desire to look better in selfies. Other patients simply wanted to look younger.

People of all ages and genders want to feel more confident in their appearance, and your jawline is a surprisingly large part of that. Maybe you’ve thought about getting a ‘chin job’ but feel reluctant to go through invasive surgery. If that’s the case, you’re likely a perfect candidate for a jawline filler. This increasingly popular non-invasive procedure can be customized to nearly any desired result.

Jawline fillers are known as a “lunch break” cosmetic procedure because they usually take less than 30 minutes, depending on the exact nature of the treatment. Since the procedure is non-invasive, patients rarely need downtime afterward. You can quickly get back to enjoying life, now with a newly improved jawline.

With jawline fillers, you can get the refined jaw you desire with minimal fuss. Watch our video to see how this is done.

What can jawline enhancement do for you?

Jawline enhancement can “fill in” strategic areas of your chin, jaw, and cheeks to create more balance in your facial features. If you feel that part of your jaw is too angular or wish your chin was less soft, jawline fillers can change that.

Here are a few ways jawline fillers can change your appearance:

Reduce the appearance of jowls (lower cheek fat)

Create a longer and stronger jawline for contour and definition.

Increase the symmetry of your jawline and chin.

Nearly any type of jawline enhancement can be accomplished with jawline fillers. Whether you want a less angular jawline or a chin that looks slim and well-defined, a filler can add the necessary structure to create your desired appearance.

How non-surgical jawline enhancement treatment works

A typical jawline filler procedure includes five steps, some of which you saw in the video above:

1. Facial assessment

Before injecting jawline fillers, a plastic surgeon or specially trained nurse will evaluate your facial appearance and skin. The goal is to “map” your face to determine exactly where the filler should go in. From there, they will typically mark these strategic points for injection on your jaw or chin. They may also take photographs of the area being treated.

2. Preparation for injection

In any type of dermal filler procedure, precautions will be taken to avoid bacterial infections and reduce unpleasant sensations. The injection sites will be cleansed with an antibiotic. After that, a local anesthetic or very cold instrument will be used to numb your skin in the area where you’re getting jawline fillers.

3. Injection

The injection itself will only take a few moments per site. During this phase, a licensed provider will inject a small amount of Juvederm Voluma or another dermal filler fluid into a site on your chin or cheeks. Jawline fillers act like bone to plump up the area of treatment.

The provider will then massage the filler into place, taking care to make sure filler material is spread evenly in the appropriate area. They may add additional filler if needed. After one side is done, they will move to the other side of your face and repeat the process.

The provider will repeat this injection-massage cycle as needed until the desired result has been achieved. To ensure you’re getting the optimal amount of filler material, they may inject small amounts of fluid into the same area multiple times.

Most patients find jawline filler injections easily tolerable with a mild local anesthetic. You will be able to feel the injections, but the procedure will probably feel more “odd” than painful.

The injection phase may be as short as a few minutes, depending on the number of areas to be treated.

4. Final cleansing

After the jawline fillers have been injected, any markers that were used will be cleaned off. At this point the procedure is over.

5. Recovery

Most people do not have any severe side effects after getting jawline fillers. You may experience minor aching or bruising in the treated area, but these side effects will most likely disappear in a few days.

The more experience and knowledge the professional administering the filler has, the simpler your (already easy) recovery is likely to be. This is just another reason why it’s important to get medical procedures done through a qualified provider using FDA-approved products.

Is jawline enhancement right for me?

Nearly anyone who wants to change their jawline or chin is a good candidate for jawline fillers. Non-surgical jawline enhancement treatments are a quick, low-commitment way to improve your appearance.

Jawline fillers are a particularly great option for people who want to avoid invasive medical procedures. Not everyone wants to undergo surgery, and your local med spa understands that. Non-surgical jawline enhancement treatments like jawline fillers can often do just as much as surgery to improve your appearance.

Since a jawline filler only lasts 9-12 months, you can try out a new jawline with no long-term commitment. Most people are happier with their appearance after a dermal filler procedure, but if you decide you don’t love your new jaw, you’re not stuck with it for life. On the other hand, if you enjoy your new jawline after getting a dermal filler, you can keep it with semi-regular upkeep appointments.

Unlike botox injections, jawline filler injections do not inhibit muscle contraction. You don’t have to worry about your face “freezing,” although that problem can be avoided with botox as well if you go through an experienced, qualified provider.
