Introducing Dermaplaning, Our New Exfoliation Treatment to Boost Your Skin Health

Is your skin looking dull? Every day, you are exposed to environmental toxins, irritants, and radiation from the sun that can damage the top layer of your skin. Over time, all of that damage builds up.

Fortunately, there’s a way to get rid of that damaged top layer and let your newer skin cells shine: dermaplaning.

What Is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning, also known as microplaning or blading, is a physical exfoliation method that scrapes dead skin cells away from the skin’s surface and removes peach fuzz hair at the same time. The goal is to reduce skin texture unevenness and give the face a radiant glow.

After a dermaplaning session, your skin will look smoother and brighter. The treatment is especially beneficial if you have dull, dry, or sun-damaged skin. It can also help reduce the appearance of fine lines and deep acne scarring.

How This Exfoliation Treatment Works

During a dermaplaning session, your provider uses an exfoliating blade to scrape dead skin cells and hair off your face. It looks a little like a razor for body hair, although there is only a single sterile blade instead of multiple blades. Your provider will gently scrape for 20 to 30 minutes as they exfoliate your skin, then soothe your skin with aloe or a similar substance.

You shouldn’t feel any pain during a dermaplaning session. It is actually quite relaxing!

Dermaplaning requires no downtime, making it one of the more convenient skin treatments you can get from a medical provider. Some patients develop slight redness or skin irritation in the hours after treatment which clears up within a couple of days. However, most do not experience this.

How to Get the Best Results

Dermaplaning works best if you take good care of your skin before and after the treatment. Significant sun damage such as sunburn can compromise your skin and make the treatment painful. You also may need to reschedule your appointment if you have an active acne flare-up, as the treatment could further irritate or tear the surrounding skin surface.

After treatment it’s a good idea to be extra careful about sun exposure. Sun damage can reverse the effects of dermaplaning or create pigment blotches on freshly uncovered skin cells. For best results, don’t leave home without sunscreen in the weeks following a dermaplaning treatment.

Dermaplaning Safety and Cost

Dermaplaning is safe for most people with minimal risk of side effects. That said, it is still a good idea to make sure your provider is aware of any skin conditions or other medical issues you may have.

At Beauty Boost, we currently offer dermaplaning for $100 with the option to add on a hydrojelly mask for $25. You can also get dermaplaning as part of our signature facial, which also includes a lunchtime peel, extractions, massage, cool globes, massage, and a lip treatment.
