WHAT ARE LIP FILLERS AND WHAT DOES BEAUTY BOOST USE?
Lip fillers, are also known as dermal fillers, are composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring substance your own body makes as a “skin plumper.” The dermal fillers we use for the lips are DISSOLVABLE, meaning if you don’t enjoy the results, we can dissolve it within minutes! We believe in administering only high-quality products in our practice. Therefore, we carry the full line of Allergan dermal fillers, including the Juvederm and Vycross families. Based on the patient’s desired outcome, the injector will select the appropriate filler.
HOW LONG DO LIP FILLERS LAST?
The body metabolizes hyaluronic acid over a period of 8-10 months, depending on the patient’s age, and frequency of exercise. For example, patients who exercise more frequently, have a faster metabolisms and therefore, filler may last shorter than a patient who does not exercise as often. Additionally, since the mouth is a very mobile area of the face, dermal fillers break down faster than areas that are not as mobile, such as fillers in the under eyes which tend to last for 12 months.
Will it hurt?
There is minimal pain and discomfort throughout the duration of the procedure. Out patients are provided with a dental block containing local anesthetic into the gums, causing them to feel nothing at all. We are often asked if we use topical numbing cream and the answer is NO! Topical numbing creams do not penetrate to the body of the lips where we typically inject, making the creams ineffective. Numbing creams also take several minutes to begin working causing the need for longer appointment times, which are unnecessary since they really provide no effect on the procedure at all. A dental block contains lidocaine and adrenalin which is a medication that constricts blood vessels causing them to be smaller in size which in the end help to prevent bruising and swelling. Using a dental block not only creates a pain free environment, it also reduces the down time after the procedure. A dental block is a lot like going to the dentist. Expect to be numb for 1-2 hours after the procedure.
Are there any risks?
Fillers are wonderful products containing hyaluronic acid (“HA”) that naturally occur in the human body. HA is a carbohydrate that binds to water creating a stiff viscous material similar to that of jello. HA’s help by improving and rebuilding fat loss in a person’s face. However, best results are determined by the skill of the injector and the quality of the product. At Beauty Boost Med Spa, Inc. we use only top of the line HA products as well as the most experienced and qualified injectors. Each injector has many years of experience, has taken advanced training courses and frequently attends aesthetic conferences to improve their skill set. Much like traditional medicine, aesthetic medicine continues to evolve driving our experts to regularly learn new injection techniques.
